Tailgating Recipes – 6 Amazing Hot Dogs for the Big Game
Pre-season football has officially started, Labor Day is fast approaching and summer is almost over so it must be time for tailgating recipes, right?
Football is all about friends, great food and tasty refreshments supporting a day of festive sportsmanship celebrated everywhere. Hot dogs are a staple for the game day aficionado typically washed down with a favorite beverage, but just a hot dog and drinks from the stadium confectioner does not make the game day, you need to get your own grill game going and score big.
Here are six of my favorite Tailgating Hot Dog recipes that will score you big points on game day. All of these grilled on one of my favorite tailgate grills, the Camp Chef Big Gas Grill, a three-burner wonder with its own grill box that is portable to transport on game day and super fast to set up for cooking on.
All of the following Tailgating Recipes are for one or two hot dogs but easy to scale up for a large crowd by doubling the quantities.
Breakfast Hot Dog
Hot Dog – 1″ cut on bias pieces
Bun
1 egg scrambled
2 tbsp shredded cheese
Optional – hot sauce
Griddle or pan
BLT Hot Dog
Bun
1 – 2 cooked bacon slices (save bacon grease)
Lettuce
Tomato – sliced
Spicy Bacon Mayo sauce
3 tbls mayo
3 tsp bacon grease
2 tsp Cholula Chili & Garlic hot sauce
Juice from 1/2 lemon
griddle or pan
Monte Carlo Hot Dog
2 ham slices – shredded
Gouda cheese – shredded
1 – tbsp blackberry jam
2 – eggs mixed for batter
griddle or pan
Dip hot dog into batter and fry on griddle, flipping once. Dip inside of bun in batter and fry on griddle.
Philly Cheese Steak Hot Dog
Hoagie sandwich Bun
2 – thin sliced steak or roast beef luncheon meat cut into strips
1 – small onion, sliced
4 – mushrooms, sliced
2 – slices Provolone cheese
Honey mustard mayo sauce
1 tbsp honey mustard
1 tbsp mayo
griddle or pan
BBQ Hot Dog
Churrasco Hot Dog with Peruvian Green Aji Sauce
Hoagie sandwich bun
tomato – sliced
1/2 medium avocado mashed
Peruvian Green Aji Sauce
1 bunch cilantro leaves
2 garlic cloves
2 jalapenos – seeds removed
3 green onions diced
juice from 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp garlic powder
salt
pepper
1/2 cup olive oil
Add all Peruvian Green Aji Sauce ingredients excluding olive oil into food processor. Pulse to combine. Add olive oil slowly as needed to create a creamy texture.
